An Early Christmas Present: Pictures and Papers

Before diving into the well-deserved Christmas Holidays, I have updated several pages. The new papers can be found below. Apart from that, I received some excellent pictures from Steve Byland (be sure to check out his website:

Feel free to send me papers I have missed and pictures of possible hybrids.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  1. In perusing your website, I did not find these three references, which may be of interest (I worked closely with Dr. Parkes for many years when I was with the bird banding program out at Powdermill Nature Reserve):

    Parkes, K. C. 1996. Nashville x Tennessee warbler hybrids. Ontario Birds 14:110-116
Parkes, K.C. 1978. Still Another Parulid Intergeneric Hybrid (Mniotilta × Dendroica) and Its Taxonomic and Evolutionary Implications. Auk 95:682-690
Parkes, K.C. 1983. Three additional hybrid combinations in North American birds. Abstract of paper presented at the 101st stated meeting of the American Ornithologists’ Union, New York, New York [includes a Mniotilta varia X Dendroica fusca].

Also, if you would like them, I have several photographs of a Sutton’s Warbler that we banded at Powdermill in May 2008. We also once caught a bird we provisionally identified as a Blackpoll X Bay-breasted, but this was never published (

Thanks to KCP, I share your fascination with avian hybrids!
